Korean Spicy Stir-fry Chicken and Vegetables (닭갈비, DakGalBi) | Aeri’s Kitchen


(English Subtitles by: HZ) Hi, Welcome back to Aeri’s Kitchen! 🙂 This spicy Korean stir-fried chicken and vegetable dish is called “dakgalbi” (닭갈비) in Korean. In this video, I will also show you how to make a popular stir-fried dakgalbi rice dish. First, let’s marinate the chicken! 🐔 Cut 2 pieces of chicken breasts into bite-sized chunks. Mix 1 Tbsp of cooking wine, ½ tsp of minced garlic, and 2 pinches of black pepper with the chicken. Then set it aside while you’re preparing the other ingredients. In a small bowl, combine ¼ cup of hot pepper paste 3 Tbsp of the hot pepper powder, 4 tsp of Korean curry powder, 1 Tbsp of sugar, 1½ Tbsp of minced garlic, ½ tsp of minced ginger, 2½ Tbsp of soy sauce, 2 Tbsp of cooking wine and ¼ tsp of black pepper. Mix everything together. Mix 4 spoons of the sauce into the bowl with the chicken. Save the rest of the sauce for later. Cut 1 cup of cabbage into 1-inch squares. Fold 12 perilla leaves in half and then cut them into half-inch strips. Cut 1 cup of an onion into half-inch pieces. Cut 1 cup worth of a sweet potato in half then cut it into half inch cubes. For slices, cut ½ cup green onions into 1-inch pieces. We will also need about 16 rice cakes for Tteok-bokki (떡볶이, Stir Fried Rice Cakes). In a heated non-stick pan, add 1 Tbsp of olive oil and 1 Tbsp of sesame oil. Add the cabbage, Onion, Sweet potatoes, and the rice cake. Then, put the chicken on top of the vegetables. Put the rest of the sauce you saved earlier and pour ½ cup of water over it. Fry for about 8 minutes on medium-high or until the chicken is almost cooked. Occasionally stir it. After 8 minute, add the perilla* leaves and green onions. Fry for 2 more minutes and then turn off the heat. (*I believe she misspoke. ^^;) Lastly, sprinkle 1 tsp of sesame seed on top before serving! Now I will show you how to make delicious Dakgalbi Rice. Leave some of the Dakgalbi in the pan, and add 1 cup of cooked short grain rice. Mix a little bit, then add ¼ cup of finely chopped Kimchi (김치). Fry for about 3 minutes on medium. After 3 minutes, add the finely chopped perilla leaves and the green onions. And then add the shredded dried laver (김, seaweed). Fry for another two minutes and then turn off the heat. For the final touch, add some sesame seeds. If you want, you can also drizzle some sesame oil on top. Just Dakgalbi alone is very delicious! 😋💗 But you haven’t lived until you try this stir-fry rice style!
