Eat a Mediterranean Diet to Help Reduce Hot Flashes

to help you cool down. First, eat fewer calories. When you have less body fat, you have less
heat-producing insulation. In fact, losing just 10 pounds has been linked to fewer hot
flashes. One strategy that has been proven to help keep calories in check, is following
a meal plan. Another is recording your food intake. Second, eat less fat. Women who limited
their fat intake to 25 percent of their calories while on a fruit-, vegetable- and whole-grain-rich
diet had 14 percent fewer hot flashes than women who simply tried to eat healthy. To
cut back on fat, measure the oils you cook with, and choose reduced-fat or fat-free dairy
products instead of full-fat. Finally, try the Mediterranean diet, which includes fruits,
vegetables, whole grains, olive oil and even a daily glass of red wine. Researchers found
that menopausal women eating Mediterranean are less likely to experience hot flashes
and night sweats. The diet helps keep blood sugar stable and is also high in fiber, both
of which may relieve menopause-related discomfort. An overall healthy diet and weight management
can be very helpful in dialing down hot flashes.
