Colleen Quigley reports live from Wilmington amid Hurricane Dorian

TODAY. FOR NOW REPORTING AND WILSON I AM KELLY KENNEDY FOR CBS 17 NEWS. THANK YOU. NOW LET’S GO TO COLLEEN. Reporter: WE HAVE BEEN HERE SINCE TUESDAY WAITING FOR THIS STORM KNOWING THAT IT IS GETTING CLOSER AND CLOSER. IF YOU WERE FOLLOWING US ON TUESDAY DAVE AND I WERE REPORTING ON THE PIER IN WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH. YOU KNOW THAT IS AN ICONIC SPOT TO GO THE WIND SPEED IS 46 KNOTS . IT IS JUST SINCE TUESDAY THERE HAS BEEN THIS FEELING OF ANTICIPATION WATCHING. WHEN WE TALKED TO PEOPLE WILL REMEMBER STORMS LIKE. AND FRIEND THAT WERE SO DEVASTATING. AND OF COURSE FLORENCE JUST A YEAR AGO. THE GENTLEMAN WHO IS LETTING US STAND ON HIS DECK HE SAID HE HAD A FOOT OF WATER LAST YEAR FROM FLORENCE. THEY ARE HOPING THAT IT IS NOT THE CASE TONIGHT AS DORIAN MAKES ITS PRESENCE KNOWN. I WANT TO MENTION THE BIG CONCERN IN THIS COMMUNITY IS STORM SURGE. THAT IS WHEN THE WIND PUSHES THE WATER CLOSER TO THE COMMUNITY. PEOPLE ARE WAITING TO SEE IF THAT IS GOING TO BE AN ISSUE. WE HAD POWER OUTAGES. WE SAW THE LIGHTS FLICKER HERE BRIEFLY. THE LIGHTS ARE STILL ON FOR THE MOST PART. THE POWER HAS NOT GONE OUT BUT I CHECKED WITH DUKE ENERGY AND IN THIS COMMUNITY THINGS ARE CERTAINLY STARTING THE KICKOFF HERE. WE REMEMBER SO WELL WHEN I 40 WAS SHUT DOWN FOR DAYS AND DAYS AND WILMINGTON WAS AN ISLAND AFTER FLORENCE. IS THERE CONCERN THAT THEY WILL BE SHUT OFF AGAIN? Reporter: THE FEELING RIGHT NOW, AND I HOPE WE ARE CORRECT IN SAYING THIS, THE FEELING IS THAT IT WILL BE NOT AS BAD AS PREVIOUS STORMS. WITH FLORENCE THE RAIN LINGERED FOR DAYS AND DAYS AND DAYS. THEY ARE HOPING IT IS NOT A REPEAT OF LAST YEAR WHEN EVERYBODY WAS CUT OFF. OTHER THAN WHAT WE SOLID STANDING WATER THEY DID NOT SEE ANYTHING MAJOR. THERE ARE SOME OTHER AREAS THAT HAD STANDING WATER BUT NOTHING MAJOR YET. WE JUST HAD A DELUGE OF RAIN MONSTER.
